The Original, British-Made Thumbthing

Designed by a groomer for groomers who will not compromise.

 Thumbthing and Thinsert Combo

Born in a British grooming salon, the Thumbthing was created by a small family team who live and breathe their craft. The design work was led by Katie Rourke Dowding, a professional groomer with over 20 years of hands-on experience who knew what the product needed to do, alongside her son Jenson who was 3D-printer-computer-mad and studying for his A-levels at the time. Together, they combined grooming expertise with technical precision to create the original Thumbthing.

Fast forward to 2025: Every Thumbthing, Ringthing and Thinsert sold helps fund Jenson’s university education at ARU Cambridge. Each one is still made by hand here in Ascot, Berkshire, not shipped off to a factory outside the UK. This is a tool with a story and a purpose.

When you spend hours grooming, every tool matters. The Centre Stage Thumbthing is not just another piece of kit, it is the one that started it all. Developed in an established British salon, it gives you unbeatable grip and control, helping you work faster, safer and with less strain on your hands.

Made from premium, long-lasting materials, it is built to handle years of daily use without wearing out or letting you down.

Why groomers choose the original:

Pro-designed comfort, crafted by groomers for all-day use

Non-slip security, keeping your tools steady even when wet

Built to last, with no flimsy plastics or throwaway materials

UK-made quality, supporting local craftsmanship and jobs

There may be cheaper lookalikes, but when you are in the middle of a groom the last thing you need is your gear giving up on you. Choose the one that is proven, trusted and ready for anything, the Centre Stage Thumbthing.

The original concept came from Mandy Carr at The Scissor Boutique (which is why you'll see our Thumbthing family for sale on her website). We went through a great many iterations before finalising the design, with thanks to Mandy and Costin Stoica for their valuable input.

Pics 1 6 in one

Thumbthings work best in straight scissors, chunkers or blenders.  You can put them into curves of course, but you won't be able to "flip" them with a Thumbthing inserted, you will need a pair of Thinserts to do that.

There are FOUR Thumbthing sizes

measurement of thumb hole

Small, 15-18 mm

Regular, 17-20 mm (80% of scissors are this size)

Large, 19-22 mm

Extra Large, 22-25 mm

If in doubt, go for the larger size.  Thumbthings are EXTREMELY squishy and you want a nice tight snug fit.
