Stop guessing what you need to charge. This calculator uses your actual business costs, household expenses, preferred working pattern and estimated 2026-27 tax liabilities to calculate a minimum sustainable hourly rate, daily sales target and average charge per dog.
What the calculator includes
The calculator contains four editable worksheets that take you from annual expenses to a practical pricing target. The example figures provide a realistic starting point, but every white input cell can be replaced with figures that reflect your own business and household.
- Page 1: Enter your annual business expenses, including equipment, consumables, premises, utilities, marketing, professional fees and payment-processing costs.
- Page 2: Enter your annual personal and household expenses, together with any regular income that does not need to be generated by the grooming business.
- Page 3: Test different working patterns by choosing your working days, chargeable hours and dogs per day. You can also choose how many weeks of emergency cover to build in, with four weeks provided as the recommended minimum. The calculator then allows for estimated 2026-27 Income Tax and National Insurance.
- Page 4: View the key results at a glance, including estimated annual turnover, minimum sustainable hourly rate, daily sales target, average charge per dog and the weekly amount to reserve for tax.
Compatibility
The calculator is supplied as a Microsoft Excel workbook and works best in Microsoft Excel on a desktop or laptop. It may also open in Apple Numbers, LibreOffice or OpenOffice, although formatting, protected cells and some formulas may behave differently.

Downloading and backing up your calculator
Your download link will remain available for 30 days. Download the workbook promptly, use the password supplied with your order and save a backup copy somewhere secure. We recommend keeping one copy on your computer and another in cloud storage or on an external drive.
Replacement copies cannot be guaranteed after the 30-day download period.
